Back in June, I got together with Vicki and her family at their home. Vicki is an extended cousin of mine and was Aiden’s teacher last year, and I had gifted her a session for being such an awesome teacher! What none of the rest of us knew at the time, was that she was already on a track that would turn their world upside down. She had found a lump in her breast and waited to tell everyone until after these photos, just so everything could be exactly as it was one more time.
I first met Vicki when I was in high school and she started dating Rusty, who I knew from going to Roush’s after youth group every Wednesday. We wouldn’t find out for ten more years that we were related, our grandparents were first cousins! When Aiden and Kenley were in the same class, anytime they were together, all we’d hear was “Aiden’s my cousin!” “Kenley’s my cousin!” “Did you know Aiden is my cousin?” Hahaha. And then the year after that, she became my son’s first grade teacher. This session was actually the first time that I had gotten to meet her parents and sister, who are also very much related to me! Haha
She is the kind of person who gives and gives and gives, sometimes to the detriment of her own self. So it was no surprise to us that when she started going through chemo at the end of the summer, our community rallied around their family. Fellow teachers and staff worked together to donate enough PTO days to her that she didn’t have to worry until after she was almost finished with chemo, and while she’s no longer able to be in the classroom due to COVID, she has an awesome sub working with her class for her this year. Fundraisers have been put together for them, they’ve had shirts made thanks to Court-side, bracelet sales, Color Street parties, provided dinners, helping hands, etc etc etc.
I have decided to run a set of minis for them myself on November 7th and 8th. They are $150 and $100 of each mini will be donated to the family. Not only is a large portion being donated back to the family, these are also the cheapest sessions I’ve offered in two years!
